Bills Worth Watching
This year the state legislature acted on 423 bills - 284 of them became law. The non-partisan staff at the Office of Policy and Legal Analysis (OPLA) has done a great job putting together a summary of every bill that came before the legislature this year. If you want to read all the summaries click here and bring a strong pot of coffee.
In the accompanying document we've shamelessly reproduced the OPLA summaries (edited slightly only for format and readability) of 34 bills that passed this year with the broadest impact on our region. Some of the summaries are long, but the bills themselves are detailed and substantial.
Not every legislative committee is included - that doesn't mean they weren't busy, just that they didn't have bills that made our list. And speaking of busy, take a look below at the work put in by the Utilities and Energy Committee! Half of the pages that follow belong to them - and the laws they crafted this year will have remarkably significant impacts on us all for years to come.
Finally, keep in mind these are summaries, not the laws themselves. To read the actual statutes (and get all sorts of other info like bill sponsors, roll calls, committee votes and much more) click on the "LD XXXX" link that introduces each summary.
Remember - these summaries are provided to alert you to what's been enacted. Do not rely on them for legal or other business purposes. Always contact your professional advisors before reacting to the summaries below.
